On November 15th from 1:15 p.m., we were supposed to have talk show of the producer in Hong Kong, Ms. Barbie Tung, about “The latest information of Asian Films”. However because of the big change of the talk show, we made an alternation to “The role as a producer”.
- Everyone. Come to the front! Let’s talk friendly.
Pauline the MC and the interpreter, said to the audience.
“In China, it’s a good market to make films.”
It’s really surprising. The talk show started with conversation about the business of making films. However this is her attitude towards her job as a professional.
- What is your role to create films?
“It’s producer. Producers must control everything about making films. No money, no days. That’s the situation and at the same time we have to manage with the staffs.”
“First, I consider which market I’m gonna make the film for and move with the people who can create it. I make out the budget, the schedule and find the producer and staffs. After shooting a film, it’s now needing promotion. I think about all of a production”
Talking of movies, actors and producers will be in the lime light. In that circumstance, Ms. Tung talked lively about the substance of the work of producers and what she received from the experience. Her talk was a humbling fact.
“Furthermore, producers have to learn about new technologies (like 3D) that is in use now and other technologies that have already become a part of film making. Also we have to think about necessity art. In that point, we need legal knowledge too. For example, if the bland bag is in the film, the matter will end up in court. It’s necessary to educate all staffs about it.”
“It’s also necessary to care about relations with staff”
“Perseverance is required to endure the long periods of time planning, making and promotion.” It’s important to think of them as a job. I want the young, dreaming of the bright stage, to find the truth”
“Only actors and directors are praised for the achievement of movies. Praise producers and background people too, and tell them, “This movie couldn’t be made without you.”
On the other hand, she talked about her secret delight,
“I can decide the shooting place as my pleasure. I can choose the country where I want to go”, with her face beaming with smiles. Producers remember only good things after the movie was put together. Even if there are a lot of difficulties, we forget all those memories. These are my delightful memories.
A number of difficulties create boundless positive impressions. All of the audience were sure that Ms. Tung would keep moving people in the future and the talk show came to an end.
