An open conference for the new film project with legendary director, Mr. Hasegawa.

After shooting two films, ”The Youth Killer” and “The Man Who Stole the Sun”, director Mr. Kazuhiko Hasegawa haven’t directed any films for a long time. We were waiting for his 3rd film, so held the first planning conference for the film. “If I could find the fine materials and ideas, I want to shoot the next one.” Mr. Hasegawa said and showed a willingness. 50 people participated and exchanged their ideas of material or story for new production.

Kazuhiko Hasegawa Mr. Takushi Nishinaka, whose film was nominated for the competition, spoke first. He suggested a story about avenge of the convinced defendant’s family on the judge. Mr. Hasegawa looked back his penal servitude for a half year. He showed interest and said, “Judges are human being. They have emotion more than we think. If there aren’t any films describe judges as a human being, it’s OK as a new idea.”

Kazuhiko HasegawaAn unknown member of the audience has wrote up his story and presented it. The story was set in a postwar prison and it’s about prisoners who are encouraged by watching Carp, a baseball team.
After reading the story, Mr. Hasegawa explained his impression, “In this novel, the prisoners have interesting characters. We have to think who to focus on and we have many things to describe, like the past story of the prisoners and unfoldment of time series. I want to create a film that people can empathize with the main character, so it’s too ensemble for me.”
He also said he feels ashamed to describe warm story. “My style is ‘Poisonous and Thrill’ and brief moment of tear. Poisonous is attractive, but it’s not bad thing. If I can’t feel it thrilling, it’s not my taste.” he emphasized that.
