Mr. Jean-François Rauger of Cinémathèque Française introduced Méliès’s films

Georges Méliès’ first 8 films were screened in Retrospective Henri Langlois “The Origin of Movie Vol. 1”, which is a collaborative project with Cinémathèque Française.

Mr. Jean-François Rauger, who is a French film critic and guest, introduced Méliès's films. Milieus was a magician of the circus before, but he was interested in camera invented by Lumière brothers and started to make films. He created documentaries first and gradually moved to fantasies and trick arts. His works are made as the creative world like comedy and special effects and they are the origins for creating film now.
Afterwards, he stopped making films in 1910 because he couldn’t succeed in the performance. But the appearance of Mr. Henri Langlois (founder of Cinémathèque française) lead to reserves of Mr. Méliès’ works.

Mr. Langlois says, “His films show the happiness of living” and “he was a genius who changed the machine memorizing real to the magic box! It was a precious opportunity to see his works.
