The director of the “Toute la memorie du monde”, Ms. Pauline De Raymond revealed “Un Chapeau de paille d’Italie” (An Italian Straw Hat).
“An Italian Straw Hat” was on screen on November 25th, 2017 from 10:00 am at the Yokogawa Cinema. After the film, there was a talk show with Ms. Pauline De Raymond who is the director of the “Toute la memorie du monde” and Mr. Okada Hedenori who is the fellow researcher of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo Film Center.
Because “An Italian Straw Hat” is one of the most famous silent movies, the theater was full of audience. Before the film, Ms. Raymond went up to the stage and explained to the audience about the film.
At the talk show, Ms. Raymond came up to the stage with a red dress. In the talk show, because Ms. Raymond is the director of “Toute la memorie du monde,” they made the talk about “Restoration”. Mr. Okada said, “In Japan, there are restorations of films, but they are for academic needs, not for the audience.” Ms. Raymond reacted, “In France we realize it from our desire and by our chance.”
At the end of the talk show, Ms. Raymond said, “From now, not only will we enjoy film by restoration, we have to think about how to run the film.” Mr. Okada reacted, “We need to do the restoration of silent film more actively in Japan.” Ms. Raymond closed the talk show by saying, “Please do so!”
