On November 25th, 2017 “Exile” was on the screen from 10:00am at NTT CRED Hall No.1.
This film had been directed by Mr. Rithy Panh who is a member of the jury of judges for the Hiroshima International Film Festival 2017. This film shows Mr. Rithy Pahn’s background of suffering in the rehabilitation camp of Khmer Rouge.
After the film was shown, there was a talk show with Mr, Rithy Pahn. During the talk show he said, “It is my first time visiting Hiroshima, but I knew about the tragedy of the city so my feeling was always here.” There was a question about directing his film in Hiroshima and he answered, “Alain Resnais had made a wonderful film featuring Hiroshima called ‘Hiroshima Mon Amour.’ It is very difficult to make another film that has the same theme as ‘Hiroshima Mon Amour.’ But I have an interest in radiation damage.” The talk show was closed with a round of applause that had a message of, “Come shoot in Hiroshima” and Director Rithy Pahn answered, “I’ll think more about it.”
