“Festival International Du Film Independent De Bordeaux” is here in Hiroshima!

On November 24 th , “Festival International Du Film Independent De Bordeaux part 1” had been held at Yokogawa Cinema and “Our Lady of Hormones” and “Apocalypse After” were on the screen.

Before playing the film, director of these 2 films, Bertrand Mandico went up to the stage and made a short explanation about “Festival International Du Film Independent De Bordeaux” and his films.

“Festival International Du Film Independent De Bordeaux” is a relatively new film festival in France. This film festival had started to find the chances of making a film in France. He wants to tell the world that France is not only the country of wine.
So, in this film festival they advocate bold and challenging films and trying to raise up young and talented directors. Program Director Léonardy (Léo) Soesanto made a comment about Director Mandico saying, “He is the one of the most exciting directors.”
But in these 2 films, he expressed the problems that the actress has such a desire, melancholy, and aging. Making these films, Director Mandico first wrote the script, then made and imagined the scenes. Then he finally rolled the camera by himself.
Director Mandico said, “Filming is just like life.”

After the film, there was a talk show with Director Mandico and Mr.Soesanto. When they were asked about “desire” which is the theme of these 2 films,Director Mandico said, “For me, ‘desire’ is what makes me move to make a film, so without ‘desire’ there are no film. So, I want all the people who are involved in my films, to have a ‘desire’ in them and understand what I’m making.”

In Director Mandico’s film, the story goes on like a flowing liquid. So, he was asked how he thinks about liquidity, he answered, “It is like ‘sauce’. As the sauce complements and connects the dishes, I think the liquidity will complement and connect the scenes too. Therefore, I’m always trying to make a ‘sauce’ in my films.”
