Producer Junko Sato describes the casting: "The role of the mother is a very difficult one. I wanted to ask an actor with acting ability and star power to play the role of the mother because it is a very difficult role,"
I thought Masami Nagasawa might reject my offer. But when I offered it, fortunately she accepted!” said producer Junko Sato.
Ms. Nagasawa herself said, "I cannot sympathize with Akiko at all, nor should I let her sympathize with me," so she dared to keep her backbone secret so that the audience would not become emotionally involved with Akiko, and insisted on creating an image of a mother felt through her son.
Ms. Nagasawa also revealed such behind-the-scenes episodes.
Mr. Okudaira (Shuhei), who had never done any serious acting before, was chosen by Ms. Sato through an audition and gave a great performance. He won many film awards and lived up to Mr. Sato's expectations.
After the release of the film, "there were huge response, both positive and negative" said producer Sato. “I would be happy if people were interested in the fact that perhaps there are families like this around them, and that this is a case that could actually happen. I also hope people will read the book "Daremo Boku wo Miteinai" (Nobody's Looking at Me) by Kaoru Yamadera, which gets to the truth of the 2014 incident.”
