Special screening of works with the theme of Hiroshima which stars Kaori Momoi and is directed by Nobuhiro Suwa (from Hiroshima)
Heaven Sent(1979/Japan/91min)
“Kamisama no Kureta Akanbo” [Heaven Sent] is a re-make of Noboru Nakamura’s comedy, “Shukin Ryoko” [Travel of Collecting Debts], released in 1957. The lives of Shinsaku and Sayoko, an unconventional couple shacked up together, change course when Shinichi, a young boy searching for his father, is brought to stay with them. The film watches their relationship develop on a journey that starts in Onomichi in Hiroshima and continues down through Kyushu to Beppu, Amakusa and Nagasaki.

“H Story” is an autobiographical docudrama about an attempt by a Japanese director, Nobuhiro Suwa from Hiroshima, to re-make the classic French film “Hiroshima Mon Amour” [Hiroshima My Love]. Filming is brought to a standstill when the lead actor, Béatrice Dalle from France, shows signs of fatigue and questions Suwa’s motives for filming in Hiroshima.※A talk show by director Suwa is scheduled after the screening.(You Tube live streaming is not available.)

Natsu Shojo [A Girl and Summer](1995/Japan/90min)
“Natsu Shojo” [A Girl and Summer] is a captivating story depicting hardships faced by Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors set on a small island in Japan’s inland sea. Based on Akira Hayasaka’s “Yumechi-Nikki” [Yumechi Diary], the story starts to unfold when a roof tile, partially melted in Hiroshima’s atomic blast, is brought to the island. The appearance of a mysterious young girl draws Mamoru, a 12-year-old boy, into a fantastical world and beckons painful memories of Hiroshima for his parents.
