Amir Naderi from Iran as head of the jury for “International Short Film Competition”!
Amir Naderi, who is from Iran and currently works in the United States, has been appointed as jury of the “International Short Film Competition” .
After working as a photographer in Iran, Amir Naderi made his film director debut with crime movie “Goodbye, Friend” (71), whose main character is a jailbreaker. His following works which include “Tangna” (73), “Tangsir” (73), received high reviews along with success at the box office. Then, he began working with the Children's Youth Education Association (Canoon), with Abbas Kiarostami and others. He is also known for his unique approach on children's films, and has been awarded the Best Film Award at the Nantes Tricontinent Film Festival in France for two consecutive films. This created a chance for Iranian movies to be evaluated overseas. Later, he moved to the United States and began to base his life in New York. “MANHATTAN BY NUMBERS” (89) was screened at the Venice Film Festival, “A,B.C….Manhattan”(97) entered the Cannes Film Festival "Prix Un Certain Regard" category, and “VEGAS: BASED ON A TRUE STORY ”(08) was screened at the Venice Film Festival. In 2011, he directed “CUT” a movie which was filmed in Japan, starring actor Hidetoshi Nishijima. His latest work is “Magic Lantern” (18), also screened at the Venice Film Festival.
HIFF will be screening “MONTE” (16), which was filmed entirely in Italy.
