Sunday, November 22nd 2015, at 10 a.m. at Yokogawa Cinema, the film ‘Motu Maeva’, directed by French filmmaker, Maureen Fazendeiro, was screened and afterwards, a talk show with Ms. Fazendeiro was held with moderator Daisuke Akasaka and interpreter Makie Yoshida.

In the talk show, Ms. Fazendeiro enthusiastically explained the process of making this film and key points of the story. She commented with eager eyes, “My motivation of the film emerged when I visited the garden of my old friend Sonja. I found a big ring hanging on a tree branch there. As I knew the reason from Sonja, I wanted to explore her life more. Then I finally decided to portray her life in a film.  By using any film editing technique to focus on her precious garden where her memories were filled, I could express her reminiscence clearly in images in my own way.”

During the Q&A session at the end of the talk show, the audience threw questions to Ms. Fazendeiro one after another – about the editing technique, where the idea came from, etc.  Regarding the question about “how did you combine multiple images into one film?”  Ms. Fazendeiro answered, “I tied each image while relying on my intuition. Seriously, it was a tough job for me.”

Finally, Mr. Akasaka asked Ms. Fazendeiro whether she already has a plot for her next film? Ms. Fazendeiro replied with her vigorous voice, “Of course I have!"  We are looking forward to her next film in the future.
