A screening of "The Table” and a talk show by Director KIM Jong-kwan were held on Friday, November 24, from 11:00 at NTT CRED Hall No.1.

The film "The Table", directed by KIM Jong-kwan in 2016, is set at a window table in a café in a quiet alley. The story is driven by the conversations of four pairs of people, each at a table at a different time of the same day.

In the morning, a girl who became an actress and her ex-boyfriend; in the afternoon, a reunion between a man and a woman who had a one-night stand and a meeting between a mother and daughter playing marriage scam artists; and in the evening, a woman about to get married and her ex-boyfriend.

After the screening, a talk show with the director was held, facilitated by KIMURA Michita, a freelance personality. The director described the film as "a theatrical piece with short conversations", and recalled that he had a strange feeling when he saw the different actors acting in the same chair every day, and that he felt as if he were the director of a theater.

However, the four episodes, which proceed like a play, are not independent of each other, but rather are drawn with a single underlying connection. The white flowers on the table were used to emphasize the flow of the "day" at the café and the emotions of the four couples at any given time.

Even the drinks that the couples order have meaning, with the first group expressing the difference in temperature between espresso and beer. He said he was a little afraid that the audience would get bored because of the simple conversational setting of the entire play, and revealed that he gave special meaning to the accessories for this reason.

The table and chairs were placed in the same place as the only ones who knew the conversations of all four couples. As for the music, the beautiful sound of the guitar enhanced the conversation. We were able to learn about the behind-the-scenes details that were painstakingly depicted. He also mentioned that the café where the film was set, was a workshop in a town in Korea, the director's hometown, and that he would like to use it as a tavern in his next film.

He also revealed that this film was the basis for "Shades of the Heart", which he directed in 2021, and concluded by saying, "This is a very special film for me. I would like to make another film in Hiroshima", he concluded.
