A teach-in by Director KATABUCHI, Sunao was held on Thursday, November 23rd at 12:00 in the NTT CRED Hall No.2.

Director KATABUCHI, who is participating in this film festival for the 12th time this year, smiled and said, "I am a permanent regular," which was greeted with loud applause from the fans. The mischievous Director KATABUCHI had just released a sample of his new film, "The Mourning Children - Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black”, which is set in the Heian period. The sample film depicts daily life in the Heian period and people falling victim to a plague.

In honor of today being Labor Thanksgiving Day, there was a talk about the Heian period's Niiname-sai Festival. At the festival, a dance is dedicated to the gods. Therefore, the Director KATABUCHI showed actual materials that he had researched to find out who the dancers were for each year, location photos of the buildings where the dances were performed, and picture scrolls of the festival. The quality and quantity of the vast amount of material was a surprise to the assembled fans.

Director KATABUCHI is particular about researching what exactly a day in the life of the people of that time was like. Heian-kyo was a capital where many plagues and diseases spread and many people died. The Director said, "Each of the people who died had their own life, and they lived as hard as they could. I hope you can feel that.”

In the latter half of the session, a question-and-answer session was held, which covered a wide range of topics from the Heian period to the story and the new film, and was very lively. Director KATABUCHI said, "I would like to release the second sample of the film next year. We will keep our eyes on him from now on.
