**A journey through the memories of Sonja André, an adventurer from the 20THcentury who lives in a shelter she built herself on the island of Motu Maeva. Without following a chronological order or a specific route, with images captured in Super-8 film between the 1950s and 1970s, and the voice-over of a woman, a trip, or a map, following an unceasing movement from Chad to Indochina to Tahiti.
“While I was working in Sonja’s garden, I noticed a circle caught between two trees by the pond. I was intrigued. She told me it was there because no one was paying attention to the beautiful poplars on the other shore. So the circle was meant to indicate where to look. That’s when I got the idea and decided to start filming the garden: in order to create a portrait of Sonja, I would have to depict the place she shaped with so many details. She used to say ‘this gardener presents freedom: everyone can do with it as they please.’ I took her invitation literally.”
