In the fields, we can see them stretched out in the grass or grazing peaceful. Large placid beasts that we think we know because they're farmed animals. Lions, gorillas, and bears grab all our attention, but have we ever truly looked at cows? Have we wondered how they spend their days? What do they do when there's a storm or when the sun comes out again? What do they think when they stand still looking as though they're contemplating the void? Do they indeed think? Right in the middle of a herd and following the cows' rhythm, Bovines shows cows as they truly are.

After a degree in History, Emmanuel Gras approached cinema as a camera student at the ENS Louis Lumière. At the end of his studies he went as a cinema volunteer to the Centre Culturel Français in Beirut and started work as a director of photography on documentaries taking him deep into the Middle East. On his return to France, he focused on directing his own projects and fictions, while continuing to do camerawork on other people’s films.
