“Natsu Shojo” [A Girl and Summer] is a captivating story depicting hardships faced by Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors set on a small island in Japan’s inland sea. Based on Akira Hayasaka’s “Yumechi-Nikki” [Yumechi Diary], the story starts to unfold when a roof tile, partially melted in Hiroshima’s atomic blast, is brought to the island. The appearance of a mysterious young girl draws Mamoru, a 12-year-old boy, into a fantastical world and beckons painful memories of Hiroshima for his parents.<Staff>
