<Story>
Mitsunori Yagawa (Shiro Sano), a piano tuner and second-generation ‘hibakusha,’ has been entrusted with a number of pianos pulled from the ruins of the atomic blast that mercilessly ripped through Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Hiroshima atomic pianos, or Hiroshima pianos for short, were found less than three kilometers from the blast epicenter. Yagawa devotes his time to repairing, tuning, and taking these pianos the length and breadth of Japan in his 4-ton truck. Nanako Eguchi (Tomu Muto), raised in Tokyo, is a university student studying kindergarten education. She is considering a future as a kindergarten teacher. Nanako learns that her grandmother’s piano was a Hiroshima piano and that her mother, Kumiko (Yoko Moriguchi), has donated it to Yagawa. The story starts to unfold when Nanako meets Yagawa at a “Hiroshima Piano: Peace Concert.” As the two grow closer, she finds herself searching to understand her family’s roots in Hiroshima, her grandmother’s past, the atomic blast, and the significance of Hiroshima pianos. -Why had her mother been so keen to leave Hiroshima? -What did her grandmother, Chieko, want her to know? -What drives Yagawa to selflessly devote himself to Hiroshima pianos? A world hidden from Nanako slowly reveals itself. To what end?<Staff>
