“Clockwork Couple”, was on the screen from 1:00 pm at Yokogawa
Cinema. After the film director Mr. Yukihiro Morigaki was on the stage for his
talk show.
As it is on the title, this story is about a married couple’s ordinary life,
who has a mainspring on their back that they cannot wind by themselves. To
wind it, they must ask each other to do so. So, for what reasons do they wind
each other’s springs? In this 13-minute story, it will make us think about how
should a couple live together.
Mr. Morigaki grew up in Hiroshima. Afterward, he was working at a
commercial filming company in Fukuoka, then he moved up to Tokyo, and is
now directing many major companies’ commercials and music videos.
His visit to Hiroshima was since he had a greeting from the stage of
“Goodbye, Grandpa!”, in May at Yokogawa Cinema.
About this film Mr. Morigaki said, “Many people say that couples look
each other by each other’s conditions. So, the reasons why the couple in this
film wind each other’s mainspring are not for them. They are winding it only for
themselves to live.”
This film won first prize in, FOX Movies Premiere Short Film Festival,
and second place at the Grand Prix at the Ozu Yasujiro Short Film Festival.
About getting many prizes, Mr. Morigaki said, “It was my first time to direct a
film, so I was really happy to win many prizes and I had many comments from
foreigners saying they enjoyed the film and had interest about how I made the
mainspring.”
During the talk show, there was a surprise appearance of actor Mr.
Amane Okayama jumping into the talk show.
Lastly, Mr. Morigaki thanked to the audience for coming all the way to
Yokogawa Cinema, for this 13-minute film.
