STORY

Takumi and his daughter Hana live in Mizubiki Village, close to Tokyo. Like generations before them, they live a modest life according to the cycles and order of nature. One day, the village inhabitants become aware of a plan to build a glamping site near Takumi's house; offering city residents a comfortable 'escape' to nature. When two company representatives from Tokyo arrive in the village to hold a meeting, it becomes clear that the project will have a negative impact on the local water supply, causing unrest. The agency's mismatched intentions endanger both the ecological balance of the nature plateau and their way of life, with an aftermath that affects Takumi's life.

　HAMAGUCHI Ryusuke was born in Japan on 16th, December, 1978. In 2008, his graduate work of Tokyo University of Arts master degree PASSION was selected to San Sebastian international film festival and Tokyo Filmex. In 2015, his work Happy Hour premiered at 68th Locarno International Film Festival and won awards. In 2021, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at 71st Berlinale, and at 74th Cannes, Drive My Car won the Screenplay Prize and 3 independent prizes, including FIPRESCI. And next year, it received 4 Academy Awards nominations at the 94th Academy Award, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay. It won the Best International Feature award.　Evil Does Not Exist won the Silver Lion - Grand Jury Prize at 80th Venice International Film Festival, FIPRESCI and more.
