A flower dedication ceremony was held at Peace Memorial Park on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Kyoko Heya, the Director of Hiroshima Film Festival and movie makers who will participate in the film festival dedicated wreaths in prayer. The floral tribute started at 9:00 a.m. before the opening ceremony of HIFF 2020, with all the participants wearing masks for preventing the spread of COVID-19 infection. Mr. Michito Fujii, director of “The Brightest Roof in the Universe”, dedicated a flower wreath for the first time since he last took part in the flower dedication in 2012 at the Damah Film Festival in Hiroshima. “Participating in the flower dedication reminds me of fond memories in Hiroshima. And also, quiet street scenes in the city make me think of the preciousness of taking part every year,” said Mr. Fujii. Mr. Fujii has taken part in some talk shows as one of young movie-creators, and this year, he is holding his own workshop for the first time in HIFF. He also expressed enthusiasm to measure up to the audience’s expectations for the event.

The Hiroshima International Film Festival 2020 begins today on November 21st and continues until the 23rd at NTT CRED Hall as the main venue, with Hiroshima City Cinematographic and Audio-Visual Library, with closest attention to the health of both customers and staff. Now we are facing such difficult situations such as self-imposed isolation, canceled or postponed cultural events, etc. But we keep presenting powerful films which speak to the heart, hoping they brighten the lives of visitors. We are looking forward to seeing you all at the festival!
