International Short Film Competition Group B

International Short Film Competition B was held at 1st hall in NTT Cred Hall on November 25th. After showing Familiar Tale (directed by Sumie Garcia), Stuck (directed by Huang Sheng-Ming), and Hanne and the national holiday (directed by Guillaume Brac), the directors appeared in a talk show.

Director Sumie Garcia said, “I wanted to keep the record of my granduncle who went over to Mexico from Japan. The theme of this film is the process of recovery and memory.” The director’s thought, which is taking over her granduncle’s experience, is put into in this film.

Director Huang Sheng Ming explained the production story. “When I hadn’t decided what I would produce for a graduation film, my late teacher in junior high school came up in my mind, so I produced this film.” To the question of how to create characters, he answered, “the basis is my true story in junior high school. I produced this film to record my memory of my teacher.”

Director Guillaume Brac said that he produced this film for three weeks as a workshop style, with younger people who aim to be actors and actresses. To the question, “What did you challenge in production?”, he said, “University town was familiar with me, and also an unknown place as well. Various people, like international students, live in a university dormitory. It is in Paris, but it is like another town. It was an interesting experience to me.”
