What Role Can Film Play in Conveying the Experience of War to the Next Generation?
A talk session will be held with KATABUCHI Sunao, director of “In This Corner of the World” and “Mai Mai Miracle”, and TANIGUCHI Hiroki, a citizen of Musashino.
With questions from Mr. Taniguchi, Director KATABUCHI, who has continued to create works on the themes of war and peace, will discuss how film can convey memories and emotions to the future.

    KATABUCHI Sunao

    Born in 1960, KATABUCHI Sunao is a Specially Appointed Professor and Senior Researcher at Nihon University College of Art. His screenwriting career began remarkably early with Sherlock Hound in 1984, which he wrote while still a university student.

    His directorial works include the feature films Princess Arete (2001), Mai Mai Miracle (2009), In This Corner of the World (2016), and its expanded sequel, In This Corner (and Other Corners) of the World (2019).

    He is currently working on his latest film, The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black, which depicts people living through a plague a thousand years ago.

    With the concept of making entertainment enjoyable for citizens, we've organized the Actor’s Film Festival and The Battle of Okinawa Seen by Animals.
    We are now producing and screening completely independent films created by citizens, with the aim of touring screenings in all 1,718 municipalities across Japan.
