It has been 15 years since the establishment of the creative studio BABEL LABEL. Directors FUJII Michihito and HIROTSHI Hara, two leading figures in the Japanese film industry, will hold a special talk session titled “15 Years of Journey and Miracles” to reflect on their creative paths and share their visions for the future. FUJII Michihito, known for works such as The Journalist, The Last 10 Years, Village, and 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days, has captivated audiences with his films that fuse social consciousness with entertainment. HIROTSHI Hara, on the other hand, has showcased a wide range of visual storytelling through TV dramas such as Utsubora, RISKY, and August at the Night Batting Center, and more recently directed feature films including Dangerous Detectives: The Return and The Eternal Cherry Blossom. Together, they will look back on 15 years of creative achievements and discuss the future of visual storytelling and filmmaking.   • FUJII Michihito

    FUJII Michihito

    Born in 1986, FUJII Michihito is a graduate of Nihon University’s College of Art. After graduating, he founded the film collective Babel Label in 2010 and made his commercial film debut in 2014 with Oh! Father, an adaptation of a novel by ISAKA Kotaro.

    His film The Journalist (2019) was a critical triumph, winning six awards at the 43rd Japan Academy Film Prize, including Best Picture, among numerous other accolades.

    Director FUJII has since maintained a prolific output, directing acclaimed films such as We Are (2018), Day and Night (2019), The Brightest Roof in the Universe (2020), A Family (2021), The Last 10 Years (2022), Village (2023), Hard Days (2023), and 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days (2024). His television work includes the series Avalanche (2021) and Informer (2023), as well as the Netflix originals The Journalist (2022) and The Parades (2024).

  • HARA Hiroto

    HARA Hiroto

    Raised in Tokyo, Hiroto is a graduate of the Cinema Department's Directing Course at Nihon University's College of Art.
    He joined BABEL LABEL as a filmmaker after leaving the ad production company he worked at in July 2011.
    Hiroto has directed ads for Shiseido, Docomo, Google and other major clients, and in recent years has been the chief director for such well-known TV dramas as UTSUBORA,THE STORY OF A NOVELIST, Mayonaka ni Hello! (Hello at Midnight!), RISKY, and Hachigatsu wa Yoru no Batting Center de (Night Batting Cage in August). He was also a director for the TV drama Nihon Boro Yado Kiko (The Rundown Japanese Inns Tour) and the cinemaphotographer for the entire series. He sometimes also works as a camera operator in addition to his role as director.
    Hiroto's second movie is scheduled for release in 2024.
