<Synopsis>

Mikio, the former manager of a shuttered movie theater, begins tracing his origins when its building is slated for demolition and redevelopment. His high school best friend, Nobuhiro, struggles to face his father’s advancing dementia.
Old things fade away, and new things are born. Every day unfolds as a fleeting moment in a city undergoing constant change.

    KATAYAMA Ryo

    Born in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, in 1980, he began his career as an actor after graduating from university and has also been active as a film director since 2017.

    His first feature film as a director, ROAR, was officially selected for the NEXT Generation section at JAPAN CUTS, North America's largest Japanese film festival, and was also officially selected for the Brigadoon Section at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain.

    For In When the Island Floats, he teams up once again with lead actor MATSUBAYASHI Shinji, following their previous collaboration on Icchorai.

    MATSUBAYASHI Shinji

    MATSUBAYASHI Shinji was born on November 6, 1975, in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and serves as an official Tourism Ambassador for the city.

    A founding member of Showa Geinosha—a production company led by screenwriter HABARA Daisuke—he has been a central figure in the collective since its inception and has built a prolific career focused on film and television.

    His notable film credits include Zange: The Room You Should Not Live In and the blockbuster Shin Godzilla. More recently, he has appeared in Amazon Prime’s Jigen Daisuke and the feature films Kantan no Yume: Mie Shibai to Yonin no Yakusha and Touken Ranbu: Reimei.
