A Film Reflecting on Hiroshima’s Other Tragedy Hiroki Taniguchi’s “The God's Island” to Screen at Hiroshima International Film Festival 2025

The film “The God’s Island”, directed by Hiroki Taniguchi, which contemplates “another tragedy of Hiroshima,” has been officially selected for screening at the Hiroshima International Film Festival 2025.
Filmed across New Guinea, the Philippines, and ten cities in Japan, the production captures over twenty wartime ruins, creating a powerful visual journey that connects the fading “memories” of history with the present.
At its heart lies a universal sentiment—the longing for our “loved ones”—which transcends time, nations, and borders, resonating deeply with audiences.
As part of the festival’s 80th Year Since the Atomic Bombing Commemorative Program, Island of Gods will be screened alongside several works exploring the themes of war and peace.
Director Hiroki Taniguchi will appear for a post-screening talk session.
