Stepping onto the red carpet: Hiroshima International Film Festival 2025 Begins!

The opening ceremony of Hiroshima International Film Festival 2025 was held on November 28th(Fri) at NTT CRED Hall No.1. The festival was launched with the concept of bringing together with a positive impact from around the world, and this year celebrates its 17th anniversary. At the opening, the audience gave a warm round of applause to the directors, producers, and actors from Japan and abroad as they appeared on the red carpet.

Kazutaka Yamamoto, the festival chairperson, delivered the opening remarks, expressing gratitude to all involved as well as the film fans He highlighted the festival’s purpose, saying it aims both to deepen people’s interest in Hiroshima, domestically and internationally, and to help them appreciate the value of peace, further encouraging everyone to reflect on the preciousness of peace.

Mamiko Nakatani, the Mayor’s representative, read a congratulatory message on behalf of Mayor Matsui, saying that “Many of the films being screened are highly fitting for the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, including works by directors from Hiroshima and films shot on location in the city. Hiroshima City designates every November as a ‘Month for the Culture of Peace’ during which we focus on activities fostering a shared sense of peace in the daily lives of our citizens. Films, which can move audiences across languages and nationalities, truly embody the spirit of this ‘culture of peace.’” The ceremony closed with a group photo session, creating a warm and pleasant atmosphere at the venue.
