Individual Interview with Director Chavo

We conducted an individual interview with Director Chavo, whose film “PAPER CRANES & BLUE FROG” was nominated for the International Short Film Competition. The film follows a young boy, Aki, who grows through a series of encounters—including a pivotal meeting with a woman—as he travels toward Hiroshima. One of the most striking moments in the film is the depiction of the instant the atomic bomb detonates.

Toki Sakamoto, who plays Aki, spoke about his approach to the scene: “I tried to imagine the moment when a deafening blast hits my ears, and focused on widening my eyes to express that shock.”

Director Chavo also shared a message regarding the Hiroshima International Film Festival 2025, saying, “It is an honor to have the film screened at this important moment, 80 years after the end of the war.”
