Keeping the Flame Alive Until 2025: Closing Ceremony / Awards Presentation

On November 24(Sun), starting at 17:16 p.m., the closing ceremony and the announcement of the winners of the International Short Film Competition took place at NTT CRED Hall No.1. The event was hosted by freelance personality Michita KIMURA and interpreter Pauline BALDWIN.

The ceremony began with a closing address by Hidehiko YUZAKI, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, delivered on his behalf by Keiichi NATSUME, Director of the Culture and Arts Division, Environment and Citizen Affairs Bureau of Hiroshima Prefecture. Following this, the awards for the International Short Film Competition, featuring six nominated films from around the world, were announced.

The “Audience Award” was presented to Director Ryuichi KITAHATA for “Goodbye” by producer MEGUMI. In his acceptance speech, Director KITAHATA expressed his joy, saying, "This is the award I wanted the most because it shows that the audience supported the film."

Next, the “Special Jury Prize” was awarded to Director LEE Jihyeong for “The Ghost Lullaby “, presented by Director Yudai MORIGAKI. MORIGAKI praised the work, saying, "It delivers a complete narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end in a short runtime, and the actors’ performances were outstanding." Director LEE responded with a smile, saying, "After receiving an award at the Damah International Film Festival, I’m thrilled to win here as well. I’ll work hard to be selected again next time."

Finally, the “Hiroshima Grand Prix” was awarded to Director Roger XUE for “Go Class”, presented by Jury Chair Ryosuke HIGUCHI. Director HIGUCHI commented, "Despite being the shortest film at 16 minutes, it was incredibly well-crafted. For some reason, it reminded me of “Gauche the Cellist” while I was watching." Roger XUE expressed his surprise, saying, "This award is a miracle. I never thought I’d receive such recognition."

The ceremony concluded with the closing declaration delivered by Director Yudai MORIGAKI on behalf of Kyoko HEYA, the absent festival director. Director MORIGAKI expressed heartfelt thanks to all the staff involved in the festival, bringing the event to a close.
