Special Interview: Coast Lullaby with Director LEE Ji-Hyun

We interviewed Director LEE Ji-Hyun, whose film Coast Lullaby was screened as part of the International Short Film Competition B.

In 2011, Director LEE won the Hiroshima Grand Prix in the Competition Section of the DAMAH Film Festival in Hiroshima for his work, “The Return”. When asked if his latest film, a deeply moving piece, reflects the realities of South Korea, he explained that the film was created to shed light on the rising cases of lonely deaths among not only the elderly, but also the younger generation in South Korea.
Dir. LEE shared that his creative drive has always stemmed from raising awareness of people who have been left behind by rapid economic development or marginalized from the mainstream.
Since winning the Hiroshima Grand Prix in 2011, he had stopped making films, but with this project, he has fully resumed his filmmaking career. He is currently working on a script for a feature film. “In the future, I hope to bring that feature film here and showcase it at the Hiroshima International Film Festival,” he passionately stated.
