Like the flow of a river, her memory never ceases ”Chinhua’s Blossom Unfolds” Special Interview with Director Ming Hsia WANG

It was one of her grandchildren who inspired me to make a documentary film about her. She remembers many old things, the grandchild believed that her memories are precious records of Taiwan, Japan, music and culture of that era. Her memories are so solid that no matter how many times we asked her for filming, she would give us the same answers, and I am sure that if we made the film again, we would be able to make the same one. Director Wang says that her rich memory is like a never-ending river.

Her words, “All the old things are gone except me,” were very impressive, which came naturally from her, not as a line. She also walked through the streets she used to visit in a wheelchair pushed by her son, and said goodbye to each street and town, saying that she would not be coming back. Even though her family said, “we'll bring you back anytime,” because she feels that it is no longer the same as before, so that the words came out, “All the old things are gone except me.”

Asking about her impression of Hiroshima, she said that it was the first time for her to visit Hiroshima, but before coming she had only a historical impression of the city. After walking around the city, she was touched by its liveliness, and she senses the old Chinese expression “浴火鳳凰” which is translated in English as (the) “Phoenix rebirth after burning” She felt that Hiroshima is not only a city with a tragic history, but also a city with renewed power.

As for the Hiroshima International Film Festival, she was very happy just to have been invited. She felt that this was not a small film festival, but a meaningful one with an international vision in its setting, the international guests who are invited, and the variety of films screened. She said she would definitely like to make a documentary film in Hiroshima next and would like to return to the festival.
