Sypnosis:
Yoshida returned to fiction maker after a fifteen-year interval with this ‘family drama’ that takes on the important theme of the atomic bomb, still haunting many Japanese lives until this very day. Three generations of women question their identity but, with the atomic dome of Hiroshima in the back-ground, have to admit that there can be no definitive answer to their query, due to the irrational character of the atomic bombing. All Yoshida’s style elements are conspicuously present in this strong late work by the almost 70-year old director. While many admirers of his films prefer to speak of ‘ his most recent work ‘ rather than ‘his last work ‘ , Yoshida himself has mentioned that ne can very well live with the idea of this film becoming his testament. The Women in the Mirror brought him to Cannes and sparked a reappraisal of his oeuvre in his homeland and France. It’s been 70 years since the A-bomb was dropped. This is a documentary movie about a photo that Masahiro Usami took in front of A-bomb Dome in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on September 29th of 2014. Mr. Usami is a Japanese photographer living in Tokyo and his photo project is called “Manda-la”. He has taken photos over social issues around Japan. In the summer of 2014, he came to Hiroshima but taking a photo in Hiroshima was not something simple. How did he manage to take a photo in front of A-bomb Dome? And how his work was perceived by people?

<Story>
"Orizuru" means Origami Crane. It is said that when you have folded a thousand Origami Cranes, then your wish will come true. The once-athletic Sadako set out to fold a thousand cranes at her hospital bed, so that she may again compete on the tracks. In her story told by Eleanor Coerr, the leukemia caused by her radiation exposure from the Hiroshima nuclear bomb as a toddler had cut her dream short. Her legacy, however, lives on and continues to inspire those who work to create a peaceful world for our children. Seventy years after the end of World War II and the atomic bomb, Sadako and her thousand cranes remain among the most widely recognized symbol of peace and reconciliation, which has come to be embraced by the people, not just from the United States and Japan, but the World over. This short film shines the light on Sadako's family and the people from both sides of the Pacific, who took down cultural and historical barriers, both big and small, through their hard work and courage.
