It also screened at films festivals in Japan and abroad, bringing home numerous accolades. Director MIYAGAWA is now working on his first feature-length film. In this workshop, he talks about the process of making a feature-length away from the big cities. He will also use its screenplay to hold an actors’ workshop.

In spite of studio-based filming becoming the norm, SHIRAISHI insisted on shooting it on location in Hiroshima. In this teach-in, he opens up about his reasons for filming on location, what led him to pursue a career in filmography, and more.

In this teach-in, KATABUCHI uses various sources of information to build on his HIFF 2020 workshop presentation and talk about bringing the past into the present though film.

His feature-length film “The Great Passage” (2013) won Picture of the Year at the 37th Japan Academy Film Prize, leading him to be selected as Director of the Year. His film “The Tokyo Night Sky is Always the Densest Shade of Blue” won countess awards. Yet, in spite of this, he candidly says, “I flatline after each film.” In this teach-in, ISHII talks about what propels him keep on creating films, sharing insights into the “pain” and “pleasure” of filmmaking.
